Goodbye, Outside World

Posted in Buggle Bite, Motherhood, Parenting at 8:44 pm by Momma

Daylight savings time really through a wrench in The Buggle’s morning schedule. Instead of waking up between 7 and 8 he thinks it’s appropriate to begin his day between 5 and 6 am. No matter how many times I told him that the world doesn’t start that early, he still is up and raring to go before the crack of dawn. In the summer months the sun rises before 4 am and doesn’t set until 1-2 am some nights. I can already tell that this will not be helping the current sleeping schedule….so drastic times called for drastic measures!

Yesterday we performed: Operation Shut Out. Dooce has done it with tin foil, and Silas’ Mommy with plastic bags. I’m pretty sure we have enough members for a support group!

Bye Bye World

Dad-Oh installed a plastic block out shade on The Buggle’s window. It by no means is stylish and I doubt I’ll ever find it in a Pottery Barn Kids catalog, however The Buggle’s room is pitch black now! A perfect environment to illicit sleep, deep 12 hours in a row sleep even. We also lowered his crib to the lowest level. This kid is a monkey and was climbing and crawling up every surface he could find. This bought us a bit more time, but I have a feeling he’ll be Houdini-ing himself out of bed very shortly! At least I know I can buy this if the situation presents itself! 😯

Our plastic bags have totally been working. He still sometimes wakes up early but I can lay him back down and he’ll sleep again because he thinks it’s still night. This morning he slept until 8:30. It gets better every day! I think your black out shade is a lot more stylish than our garbage bags!!! Goodness, you must live near the north pole!

Deeder’s having a hard time sleeping here and my mom and dads. Up with the sun and not going to bed at bed time because it’s still light out! We’re going to try the plastic bags…I don’t want to put money into it because we’re just here for two weeks.

Hope Aidan starts sleeping better, looks like you guys did a pretty good job keeping the sun out!

Dark, dark, dark green towels and thumbtacks work well too! 😀

  4. […] followed Jennifer and Leah’s example and covered Deeder’s windows in hopes that he would sleep better. […]
