Cherry On Top

Posted in Baby's First, Buggle Bite, Motherhood, Parenting at 7:47 pm by Momma

For the last few nights I have begun trying to wean The Buggle from his middle of the night feeding. I don’t have a very scientific technique and I’m pretty sure you won’t find my brilliant method mentioned in any “how to” baby book, but it seems to be working so far…famous last words.

I simply put The Buggle to bed as usual in his crib and when he wakes up around 2 or 3 am instead of standing in his room buck naked (future childhood trauma–I know) trying to sooth him back to sleep with his binker, I scoop him up and we go sleep in the guest bedroom together. This way if he is fussy, Daddy won’t hear him and then complain about lack of sleep while he’s on morning Buggle duty.

The Buggle doesn’t fuss much, he snuggles up to me and is back to dreamland in no time. Yesterday my plan was flawed by a late bedtime and early morning sunshine. The Buggle was wide eyed and bushy tailed at 6 am. Since The Momma was far from ready to start the day, I cheated and turned on The Backyardigans.

OH MY GOD! The Backyardigans? In bed???? In this warm and cozy bed? All five of my best friends here, now–right now? Is this for real? My dreams came true! I wish I would have been more coherent and alert for his response because it would have made great video footage. He went from flopping around and squealing like dying pig, to utter bliss. His little body melted into the pillow, he pulled the covers to his chin, and I kid you not he let out the most blissful sigh I have ever heard!

My Dream Came True!
