The Aidan-Daidan Times: Month 17
Dearest Aidan-Daidan,
Earlier this week you turned SEVENTEEN months old! It is so strange how it seems like you have been a part of our lives forever and at the same time I am baffled at how you can already be 17 months old.
This has been a month of exploration and climbing. You are such a little scientist, always studying and analyzing your surroundings. You’re constantly trying to figure out how things operate. I’m amazed at how fast you are able to learn something new. You got a shake and go car for Christmas and within a day you were able to play with it perfectly! This month you have discovered things above your head and are constantly looking up. It’s really cute. The airport has stuffed bears, dear, mountain goat, and various other wild game hanging up on the wall and you just stare at each of them with wide eyes.
You do not walk any more. If you are on your feet you are in nothing short of a jog, run, or all out sprint. We cannot believe how fast you are. It’s kinda scary and is if nothing else keeping Dad-Oh and I on our toes a bit more. You can go from one room to another in a split second. You have just about mastered bumps and uneven surfaces. Most times you don’t even think twice and easily navigate the obstacle but occasionally something will throw you a curve ball and down you go. Only for a second or two and then you are off again! You have even taken a liking to chasing the Puppers! This morning you chased her back and forth for at least five minutes, until she got tired and called it quits!
Your latest “trick” is searching for the proper remote for the DVR and bringing it to us when you want us to put a show on for you. It’s probably not the best habit for a toddler to have but it was pretty cute and clever at first! Much to your dismay we do not oblige each time you shove the remote at us, so today you upped your game and after you gave Dad-Oh the remote you stood behind him and pushed him towards the TV room! If nothing else you are an innovative little tyke! And I have to remind myself that you are the son of a man who watches entirely too much ESPN and still has the Seahawks 2006 Super Bowl “protected” on the DVR. So far the apple hasn’t fallen very far!
You have cut 3/4 molars, thankfully! Ugh, there have been some rough nights this month! I was about to order you a set of dentures and call it good! For the most part the days have been pleasant. Which is a welcomed treat from last month where Dad-Oh and I were beginning to wonder if this was how life was going to be from now on! I can say with complete certainty that I will not miss the teething stage one bit or should I say bite?!
Since you love books so much we take you to the library often. Not to mention the fact that it is just about the only place in town that we can go indoors…. Since we read so much at home I have most of the words completely memorized and instead of looking at the pages I look at you. Apparently, you think this is how you are supposed to be read to, because when we go to the library and are reading a book I don’t have memorized, you crouch your little body down and peer under my face to see my eyes. When that doesn’t work you take your little hand and pull my cheek towards you. It is so cute, and probably had little to no meaning to anyone else reading this, but it is something that I never want to forget! Your little face and sheepish smile should never be forgotten!
The obvious event that occurred this month was your second Christmas. I have posted about it before but didn’t really describe it much. Mainly because you were too busy to realize that there were fun and exciting things wrapped up in those boxes. Last year I remember saying “watch out he’s gonna be all about the presents next year.” I was pretty much way off the mark and am now reserving that statement for Christmas 2008! You however did not go away empty handed! I think we officially have more toys then both play groups put together! We should start our own!
My precious little angel each day you change more from a baby to a big boy. It brings me great joy to see you grow into such a little person, as well as pains of sadness that my baby boy is no more. I wouldn’t give up watching you grow each day for anything in the world. True happiness cannot be purchased. Even when the days and nights are hard, I thank the heavens above that you are my son and I am your Mommy! As Dad-Oh and I often say: “I just love him!”
Bunches of Love,
Momma

Aidan’s Second Christmas
Christmas has come and gone at our house and we are worn out! I packed up the tree, lights and all things Christmas yesterday. Call me Scrooge if you’d like, but I’m ready to have my house back!
This is a little video of Aidan’s holiday fun. I recently upgraded my Adobe Premiere Elements software, and it is ever so slightly different from the previous version so it required a slightly higher than anticipated learning curve. In other words: It took way too long to produce!!!

Intro to Santa 101
Yesterday we went downtown to do a little last minute Christmas shopping as a family. We first stopped in one of our local electronics stores where Aidan promptly found the flat screen TV playing Nemo. After a few minutes he realized that there were many other things for him to investigate. Including a Bobble and Ramble toddler remote control car that activates when you yank on the driver. I’m pretty sure the “how to operate this toy demonstration” came to him in a dream, because he has never seen anything like it before and still knew exactly what to do! He played with this toy for a good five minutes–until Mommy noticed a foul smell coming from her toddler below. So our shopping outing was cut short, and we returned home to change one doozie of a pamper! Ugh! After Aidan went down for his nap Mommy went back to the store and bought the toy, because that’s the kind of Mommy Santa I am! And how ever would he survive with the other million and one toys he already has?
I didn’t have time to wrap it last night before Auntie Amanda, Dick and Tater came over so I put it on the floor in the pantry to get it out of sight. Or so I thought….this morning when I was making Aidan his oatmeal he was doing this:
Yeah, okay…so I need a little training in Santa Hiding Places. What can I say?! At least I didn’t put it up high so he had to climb the shelves to play with it!
Tonight we went to Auntie Nikki’s for our annual Christmas Cookie Exchange. Yummy! Dad-Oh is trying to figure out how he can set up an “every Sunday Cookie Exchange.” Because anything “that gets us out of the house so he can watch football, and brings cookies into his life” is alright in his book! He mentioned something about a “Meat Exchange” too, but I’m pretty sure that is a no go! Sorry Honey!
Aidan had a blast running around and chasing the big kids. I have some cute video that I will load to YouTube sometime soon. Until then…enjoy the Holiday Cuteness!

Forever and Ever
Yesterday was Dad-Oh and I’s fourth wedding anniversary. I have been mulling over a schmoopy post for the last 24 hours and I have yet to find the perfect way to put our love, friendship and life into words. I’m not one to be at a loss for words very often, or ever?! I am so fortunate to have my best friend as my husband. A man who puts all things aside for his wife and family, and tells me on a daily basis that his whole purpose in life is to make me happy. How can a mere, “thank you” suffice? Instead I try to show him how much I love him and appreciate his dedication by being a better wife, mother and friend. There has never been a separation of him or I we are a team–a pair. I am so lucky that I have a man who trusts my decisions, values my opinion and shares the same philosophy on life. Four years ago I was given the most beautiful dream wedding a girl could imagine. He never questioned one single element, he was simply happy making me happy! How could I ever ask for more?!
Last night Dad-Oh’s surprise romantic evening out was foiled by evil snow. Instead of Grammie coming over to watch Aidan and allowing us a quiet evening out we got studded tires, took Aidan to the library and then we went to dinner as a family. Not very romantic, but still it was perfect. Perfect to me. That’s the best thing about our marriage. It’s not about the gifts, holidays or calendar date. It’s about family, love, and friendship–and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I love you!
This morning I got a late anniversary surprise. Auntie Nikki got engaged! I am so excited for them! I can’t wait to start planning the details! I’m pretty sure I was a wedding planner in a former life!
Congrats, Auntie! I hope you are as happy as we are! There is no better thing in life than to share it with your best friend!

Strong and Growing
I should be in bed! The last few nights have really kicked my bootie! Aidan is in the process of cutting his top and bottom left molars! His top right molar is fully through and has chomped my investigative finger several times. He is doing really well in the day time and managing the pain from his new chompers nicely, but he more than makes up for it at night. I don’t know how many hours of sleep I have lost in the last three nights but it’s enough to make be want to go to bed before 8 pm!
I think Aidan is going through a growth spurt. He seems so much taller now. Several people have commented “I think he’s taller today!” I don’t know if it is his new big boy Adidas shoes (Christmas present from Carly Jo) or he’s getting more of the rough and tumble toddler look….what ever it is the kid is officially in 18-24 month clothing. I was still squeezing him into 12-18 month pants but unless a we’re due for a flood sometime soon, I prolly should retire the highwaters!
Either this is his “Don’t mess with me the Seahawks lost” face, or my 16 month old has perfected the “stink eye!” Or maybe he’s mad I let him wear high waters in public?!
